We realise that self-catering holidays are often quite a hassle – unfamiliar kitchens, equipment and shops make for stress…. which was not the plan! We also recognise that many of the family cooks who come to us welcome the chance to either shop for quality produce, have food prepared for them, or receive a fully catered experience.
Book a local food box on arrival
You can order a food box from local suppliers to give you a head start if self-catering. With the Cornish Food Box Company* you can order a range of local food produce. They offer the typical veg, fruit and meat boxes but also provide delicious meal boxes … their Beef & Ale Stew Meat Box is a particular favourite of our guests. If you give them 72 hours’ notice before arrival, we can ensure it is unpacked for your arrival. If you like the produce you can also order a box to take home with you when you leave!

Visit Tavistock’s award-winning farmers’ market
Tavistock Farmers’ Market takes place on the 2nd, 4th and 5th Saturday of each month from 9.00am until 1.30pm. It’s a real treasure trove of fresh, local food, drink and plants direct from the producer, and much of it is organic. Everything on sale is produced within the local area, and stallholders are the farmers, growers or producers themselves. All products sold have been grown, reared, caught, brewed, pickled, baked, smoked or processed by the stallholders. People are encouraged to browse, taste and ask questions.
Book one of our local chefs for the day – or the week!
We work with three local chefs who enjoy cooking for smaller groups using local produce. You can book for an evening, a day or the whole of your stay. They will prepare meals for you in the farmhouse and deliver them to you in the barn. Our chefs cater for a range of dietary needs – please let us know who you would like as your chef, whether you have dietary preferences and on which days you would like them.

Seahem’s mother owned a restaurant and take away, so food and flavours have been in her life for a long time. Saehem is British Asian with Himalayan ancestors – Eastern flavours have a lot of influence in her cooking, as does food from all over the world.
Her food journey has included working in French bistros, Spanish restaurants, from Morocco to Switzerland, and cooking for crews all over Europe with No Fit State Circus, other theatre companies, hot air balloon companies and the Eden Project. Sea has also cooked for Vogue photo shoots, yoga retreats, weddings and shooting parties.
Sea will work with you to put menus together, recommending and supplying paring wines for her food when required.
Donna has been active in the organic food revolution for the past 20 years, through promoting local growing initiatives, and creating delicious, nutritious food that nourishes the body and honours our earth.
Donna currently manages a health food shop and cafe, and works as an event caterer for yoga and detox retreats. She is a columnist for a women’s magazine and also supports individuals, couples, families and groups to transition into easy and sustainable ways in more healthful living.
Donna would be most happy to provide you and your family with tasty nourishing food, and offer you all an opportunity to learn some simple recipes and practices that will support your well-being for when you return home.
Dan was formerly executive chef at Simon Rogan’s Fera at Claridge’s and has worked in some of the best restaurants including the renowned Roux at Parliament Square (owned by Michel Roux Jr, the Masterchef judge and Michelin starred chef).
Dan’s impressive track record includes winning the Roux scholarship in 2008 and he worked as head chef at Verbier Exclusive in Switzerland. Dan now works from Crocadon Farm in St Mellion, Cornwall, where he is launching a restaurant using organic produce grown on the 120 acre site.
Crocadon is only half an hour from Vixen Tor Farm, so Dan will bring his own grown ingredients to create incredible meals based on fresh local produce for our guests.
