Vixen Tor Farm is comprised of a farmhouse and two connected bank barns which have been renovated to provide additional accommodation when required. Facing south and protected by Heckwood ridge and foot thick walls, the barns are also kept cosy by underfloor heating. There is a woodburning stove / log burner which can be used for extra warmth or even some rustic cooking. An unlimited supply of kindling and logs is available during your stay.
Accommodation in the farmhouse consists of five bedrooms with a further king sized bed, small double bed and double sofa bed in the barns. The king bed is on the ground floor of the smaller barn, with the double on the mezzanine level above; the sofa bed is on the mezzanine in the main Barn.
The farm kitchen is equipped with both an Aga and an electric hob. The barns also have a fully equipped kitchen with a two-ring induction hob, mini oven, microwave, fridge and freezer. The bathroom in the barn has a well powered shower and full sized bath, with a plentiful supply of hot water. Other facilities at the farm include a boot-room, washer/dryer machine and unlimited free wi-fi (although we hope you will take the opportunity for a digital detox during your stay).
The accommodation can be augmented by up to two luxury yurts in an adjacent paddock enabling us to host up to twelve people. Our recommended yurt suppliers are local to Sampford Spiney, and create spectacular interiors using sumptuous textiles and furnishings. With a large range of sizes available you can hire anything from a luxurious 14 foot yurt through to a 32 foot yurt palace. All come with an impressive range of optional extras and provide flexible space in terms of their use, be it bedroom, dining area, entertainment space etc. Please contact us to request additional information and charges.
Alternatively, if agreed at the time of booking, guests’ friends may pitch their own bell tents/teepees etc, so we can accommodate bigger groups for parties and gatherings. In this event, or if yurts are hired, a luxe bathroom unit and a portable composting loo can be provided as an extra.
Located a ten minute walk away in the valley by the tumbling River Walkham and the old quarry pond is a bothy. Although not suitable as accommodation, it has a woodburner and is an ideal place for a rest out of the weather whilst out exploring our woodland, which is designated as both a SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) and part of a European protected site for habitat conservation; a good place for poetry.
